THE BEST DOOM METAL ALBUMS OF 2021 - BY JANE ORPHEUS (FUNERE)

THE YEAR IS COMING TO AN END, SO IT'S TIME TO SEE THOSE FANTASTIC AOTY LISTS! THIS TIME WE'VE INVITED JANE ORPHEUS TO SHARE WITH US HER LIST OF THE BEST DOOM METAL ALBUMS OF 2021. JANE IS THE MASTERMIND BEHIND FUNERE, AN UNDERGROUND LABEL DEVOTED TO DOOM METAL, SO HER OPINIONS ARE MORE THAN VALID.
LET'S GO SEE WHAT SHE'S BEEN INTO, THIS STRANGE YET PRODUCTIVE YEAR IN METAL MUSIC!

Hi guys. I made the best doom metal albums for 2021 in my opinion, exclusively what I love. There are a lot of albums, but I chose only those who really inspired me this year! I hope you will be interested!

5. Skepticism - "Companion" (Funeral/Doom Death Metal, Finland).

This album sounds more Doom Death to me than the Funeral Doom. But the guys stick to their style. If you compare their previous albums, they sound more gloomy. I don't feel those thrills, darkness here in this album, but in any case, having a love for the band, this album is worthy of attention.

4. Wheel - "Preserved in Time" (Traditional Doom Metal, Germany).

For me, there is not much high-quality traditional Doom Metal. But this band is in my top. In the best traditions of the genre, clean vocals play an important role. It is perfectly combined with the musical part, does not irritate the ear. I think this album is very successful.

3. Extreme Cold Winter - “World Exit” (Old School Doom Death Metal, Netherlands).

It's amazing how Doom Metal can be, so different. This album smells like old school Doom Death! I'm glad that I can enjoy this sound, moderately slow, absorbing. I definitely recommend this album.

2. Mortiferum – “Preserved In Torment” (Old School Death Doom Metal, USA).

Another band that sounds old school, but here for me it's more Death, old school Death Doom. This band does not change its style. Fast riffs are replaced by slower ones, and vice versa, they do it beautifully creating a single universe. And of course it is accompanied by a growl, which I also like.

1. HellLight – “Until The Silence Embraces” (Funeral/Doom Death Metal, Brazil).

When I made my list, I knew in advance who would be the best for me. These are guys from Brazil. It was a very anticipated album for me. The guys are true to their concept, which is in all their albums. The combination of growl and clean vocals, I can say about the latter, when he sings clean, his voice chills me to the very bones. Their music is very recognizable, and the best thing for me is that they don't sound the same.
